The Illinois attorney general is urging those facing foreclosure to contact here office for help. A month after a settlement with big banks over procedural fraud in the filing of foreclosure documents, Attorney General Lisa Madigan says the settlement proceeds will provide relief for Illinois to assist those who have lost their homes, are underwater or at risk of defaulting on their mortgages. She wants residents with mortgage woes to call her office.

The settlement with Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo, Citibank and Ally Bank (formerly GMAC) is the first step, according to Madigan. “While the settlement is a big step forward in our efforts, it is not the end,” Madigan said. “In Illinois we continue to take strong legal action against lenders, banks, servicers and others who contributed to the housing and economic collapse.” Illinois Attorney General Homeowner Hotline: 866-544-7151.
