There are more homeless people in Madison County than there were a year ago.  The recent Point-In-Time Homeless Count showed 419 people in the county were experiencing homelessness, up from 397 the year before.  Nearly half of them are children.

David Harrison, the Homeless Services Manager for Madison County Community Development, tells The Big Z these statistics will be used to try and serve those in need of assistance.

Harrison says homelessness can take many forms, and in our area it's often the individual or family that is doubling up on housing or "couch surfing" with friends.
