People who brew beer at home are hopping mad that they cannot take their suds to events such as the International Beer Festival the Peoria Jaycees put on every spring. You might say the home brewers and the state are at loggerheads over it. It’s the main fundraiser for the organization, and home brew has been included in each of the first 19 years.

For the 20th, organizer Steve King said he was informed it would not be allowed for health reasons. That fell flat with him, as no such law had been enforced in the past.  “We did it for 19 years without any problems,” he said.  A bill drafted this year would allow home brewers to participate in such festivals, and beer fans are hopeful it will come to a head during the upcoming Veto Session, and not stay bottled up in a committee.
