A local fire official is reminding families about the dangers of some holiday decorations.  More than 35-hundred fires were reported in Illinois last December. Godfrey Assistant Fire Chief Shawn Bloemker says those fires can be attributed to a variety of causes including Christmas lights, candles, and Christmas trees placed too close to fireplaces and space heaters.

He says when it comes to Christmas lights, you shouldn't get too crazy.

Bloemker comments

December is one of the biggest months for candle fires, with most starting because the candle is lit too close to curtains, lamp shades, Christmas trees, and other holiday decorations.
