After spending several weeks giving a serious thought for another run at a seat in Congress, one former Madison County State Representative has decided to change his aim and run for a recently vacated house seat. Jay Hoffman of Collinsville will be looking to fill the seat that just opened in the 113th State House district in Illinois. Hoffman had been out stumping in several localities in the 13th Congressional district but has decided to run for the house seat that opened up with the resignation of Democrat Tom Holbrook.

Holbrook had been the 113th District State Representative until his appointment by Governor Pat Quinn to head up the Pollution Control Board and his resignation this past Monday. Hoffman formerly served in the Illinois House from 1991 until 2010 when he was defeated by Glen Carbon Republican Dwight Kay. Hoffman says his advocacy for issues such as economic development, education and capital construction led him to sway his aim from a national to a state seat. He ran for the congressional seat won by Representative John Shimkus in 1996.
