Scrap theft continues to be a problem statewide, but a new task force is coming together to brainstorm ideas. Municipalities around the area have passed laws to tighten the noose on those who would deal in illegally obtained metals, but scrap thieves continue to find places to peddle their stolen goods in neighboring communities.
Illinois State Representative Jay Hoffman (D-Swansea) says House Bill 330, will create a task force of experts he says will help devise a wide-ranging plan to combat metal theft.

The task force will include lawmakers, state and local law enforcement, and representatives from the state’s public utilities, rural electric cooperatives, insurance companies, and scrap metal suppliers.
