The campaign of Alton Mayor Tom Hoechst has decided not to pursue a complete recount of the April election results, after a "Discovery" process on Thursday with the Madison County Clerk showed no change in the original count.  This officially ends the former mayor's bid to retain office.  It was a race that saw various legal maneuvers over the course of several months, ending with Brant Walker's victory by 74 votes.

Walker was inaugurated May 8 following the regular city council meeting, and made several appointments, including Jake Simmons to the job of Police Chief.  Hoechst and Walker have previously met to discuss issues such as the Wadlow site development and the Riverfront hotel & convention center project.
