It may be the end of the line for the Hiway House Motel in Godfrey.  The motel had recently reopened on a limited basis after making repairs required to meet village code, but recent activity at the business was apparently the proverbial "straw that broke the camel's back."

Godfrey Mayor Mike McCormick tells The Big Z there were issues brought up at this week's Public Safety meeting by the village's zoning administrator, the Fire Chief, and the Madison County Sheriff's Department.

A representative with the Madison County Sheriff's Department says there were also a couple of drug arrests, property disputes, and thefts in recent weeks.  Village trustees voted last night to have the village attorney draw up papers to shut the business down.  He says unless the owners fight it in court, this may result in a permanent closing of the motel.
