The Highland Education Association will take up pickets to march outside the Highland School Board meeting on Monday night. It could be a preview of teachers officially walking off the job if the two sides cannot find common ground soon as an intent to strike notice has already been filed.
A statement from the HEA indicated after a two and a half hour session on Wednesday night the two sides remain far apart. It was the third meeting between the district and the union with a federal mediator and teachers have decided to meet next week to authorize the bargaining team to set a strike date. The current contract expires on August 31 and the first day Highland teachers could walk out would be September 4.
