A budget that reflects what the Bethalto mayor says is “horrible” cash flow and extremely high debt has resulted in an $85-thousand increase in the village’s tax levy. That increase should mean slightly higher taxes for village residents next year, after the Village Board unanimously passed a proposed tax levy ordinance this week.
Mayor Alan Winslow says there is light at the end of the tunnel.

The total amount levied is just over $1.9-million. He says they will continue to tighten their collective belts as much as possible, but the only reductions in staff will come through attrition.
