If you drive between Brighton and Godfrey on a regular basis, you have probably noticed a different look the closer you get to Brighton. The Illinois Department of Transportation has been clearing the trees along the railroad right-of-way as it prepares for higher-speed rail service. More demolition is planned in the village this week.

IDOT is buying out property to prepare for demolition about halfway between Godfrey and Brighton at the David Lane intersection, as Highway 267 / 111 will be relocated slightly to the west. American Storage, Mohawk's Pub, and six residences will be demolished as part of that project.
