With no apparent end in sight to the heroin epidemic, a task force has been formed to study the effectiveness of past efforts to fight the problem, assess the current situation, and develop a plan of action for the future. The first public meeting of that task force is today, and will feature the observations of a D.E.A. representative and the Madison County Coroner.
Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Gibbons says they hope to hear from treatment providers at their next meeting in a few weeks to discuss what they see as barriers to treatment.

Part of today’s program will include information on where the heroin that is flooding this area comes from, how it gets here, and how it is distributed once it gets here. Today’s meeting is at 1pm in the Madison County Board Room, and is open to the public.
