Hot summer temperatures are making a late arrival in the St. Louis area.  For this last week of August, the heat index could climb into the triple digits.  The hottest day is expected to be Wednesday, with an expected high in the upper 90's, and a heat index of up to 105 degrees.  Health experts are asking the public to play it safe while the heat is on.

John Peipert, Director of Emergency Services at St. Anthony's Hospital in Alton, says you need to pay attention to your body, don't over do it, keep an eye on the elderly, and stay hydrated.

Peipert comments

Local health officials urge the public to take precautions and check on elderly friends and neighbors during hot weather events.
