Altonpublic school students will be seeing changes to their lunch menus starting today after the Alton School Board approved changes to the new food service contract with Aramark that is worth an estimated $2.1 million.  The changes include the switching to fat free milk throughout the district as well as changing to all whole grain food products and including healthier side and a la carte items such as fresh fruit and vegetables.

School Board President Ed Gray says that the cost of the new contract may seem high but that it is really a good value for the district.

AltonMiddle Schoolstudents will also have the option of including string cheese and bottled water in their lunch time selections. The biggest adjustment may be forAltonHigh Schoolstudents however as they will now only be served french fries two days a week.

In other school board business, Catherine Elliot was appointed as a new Assistant Principal atAltonHigh Schooland the board also approved a bid worth $1,028,103 to replace the roof onEastElementary School.
