Alton’s Hayner Public Library District will receive a $16,000 grant from the Illinois Secretary of State and Librarian Jesse Whites office. The Project Next Generation is the first-ever statewide mentoring program to be administered through Illinois public libraries. Hayner has received money from the program in the past, and focused on teaching computer skills to kids in the 5th through 8th grades.
But with most kids already having a firm grasp on computer basics once they get to middle school, Hayner’s Young Adult Program Manager Sharon Windham says they are pushing into new territory with the latest grant.
