Illinois farmers will be able to sit down to turkey and all the trimmings Thursday, with the harvest virtually wrapped up.
“For corn, we show it at 97 percent complete. That compares to 98 percent one year ago and 92 percent for the five-year average,” says Mark Schleusener, state statistician for the USDA in Illinois, giving his office's final weekly crop progress report of 2014.
The crop reporting service has stopped asking about soybeans, as they are all but harvested as well, he says.
Schleusener says a final yield report is due out Jan. 12, 2015.
