The potential race to fill the former seat of Ann Callis on the the Madison County Circuit Court has a new member. Associate Judge Clarence Harrison announced Monday that he would seek the position that was formerly held by Callis who resigned earlier this year after announcing her plan to run for Congress.
Harrison was appointed as an associate judge in 1999 and has been appointed for three successive four-year terms by the nine circuit judges. During his time on the bench, Harrison has been assigned a variety of cases including those with injured workers and he most recently handled the Madison County asbestos docket.
Circuit Judge James Hackett was appointed to fill the rest of Callis' term in the Third Judical Circuit by the Illinois Supreme Court upon the recommendation of Justice Lloyd Karmeier in June, but has not announced if he will run for the seat in November 2014.
