The Alton Police department continues its Halloween "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” Impaired Driver Crackdown through the weekend. The Illinois Department of Transportation is funding the increased patrols, in an effort to decrease fatal accidents. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that the majority of those accidents happen between midnight and 3 a.m.
Alton Police Department Public Information Officer Emily Hejna says you can expect to see an increased police presence on the roadways but Hejna says that doesn’t mean that Police don’t want you to have fun.

Alton Police recommend designating a sober driver before going out and that you never let friends or family members drive while impaired. Hejna also says walking impaired can be just as dangerous as drunk driving, so you should designate a sober friend to walk you home.
