Illinois State Senator Bill Haine has been named the new chair of the Senate’s Democratic Downstate Caucus. He takes over for John Sullivan, who apparently needed more time to tend to his auction business. Haine says he enjoys work, and is looking forward to this new assignment.
The caucus is a group of 11 senators from downstate districts who meet regularly to discuss policy positions and issues affecting their districts as well as coordinate their votes. Haine says they make up a powerful swing block.
The 11 downstate Democrats make up 27.5 percent of the overall democratic caucus.
