Illinois Governor Pat Quinn hopes that a new pension reform package will be passed by the Senate this week. However some state lawmakers, including Alton State Senator Bill Haine, are already expressing concerns about the constitutionality of S.B 1.
Haine says the pension reform package passed last week in the House might not be the “real solution” to the pension problem
Haine says the new measure is a unilateral change in pensions imposed on current employees and retirees and that it is unconstitutional because it doesn’t give people a choice. He says the original S.B. 1, which was passed out of the Senate two weeks ago, gave employees the option to choose the compound COLA or take other benefits.
