Computer hackers are threatening to shut down the Iowa caucuses on January 3rd.  A video denouncing a corrupt political system calls on supporters to peacefully shut down the caucuses. The video purports to be from Anonymous, a loosely organized group of hackers who have successfully conducted past computer attacks.

Raimund Ege, a professor of computer science at Northern Illinois University, says it can definitely be done. “If the Anonymous group starts a denial of service attack, they know in Iowa where it is, so if they just keep that out of communications, then it will delay for quite some time,” he said.  Ege says election officials in Iowa should be worried.  The Republican Party in Iowa is taking new steps to secure their vote counting systems. Investigators aren’t sure if the video is authentic.
