The Madison County Sheriff's Department says it was a misunderstanding that lead to a brief lock-down today on the Lewis and Clark Community College in Godfrey. Sheriff's Department Captain Mike Dixon says the subject in question was spotted by a student who reported to security he believed he saw a man with a gun. The man in question turned out to be an off-duty police officer:
Dixon says they identified the man as an off duty Alton Police officer who was going about his business and carrying the firearm legally, and in no known violation of any rules on the Lewis and Clark campus. Dixon says no one was harmed or threatened and says it does not appear anything criminal in nature was involved. The campus lock-down lasted about a half hour and was lifted just before 11:30am today.
