A 47-year-old Godfrey man is facing a felony charge of reckless discharge of a firearm after an incident at his home Monday night. Investigators say Michael K. Niemeier of the 4,800 block of Longview near the D'Adrian Subdivision was arrested after neighbors reported several shots fired at his residence just before 10:30.
Sheriff's Deputies made contact with Niemeier at his residence, where they seized a loaded high powered rifle and a loaded .357 magnum revolver, as well as several spent firearm ammunition casings in Niemeier’s front yard matching those from the high powered rifle. Lieutenant Mike Dixon says there were no injuries reported, and to this point, no damage either.
As for motive, Dixon says he is unaware of one, but noted deputied believed him to be intoxicated when they arrived. In addition to the firearms charge, Niemeier is charged with misdemeanor offenses of unlawful possession of cannabis and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Deputies allegedly found several articles of drug paraphernalia and approximately 25 grams of suspected cannabis. Bond was set at $20,000.
