A Chicago man has pleaded guilty to robbing a fellow student when they attend SIU-Edwardsville two years ago. 20-year-old Jabreel Watson pleaded guilty to armed robbery in exchange for other charges being dropped. Two other suspects in the case have already pleaded guilty.
Watson was sentenced to 11 years in prison, with the possibility of early release for good behavior. He had no previous criminal record. Authorities say the night of the robbery; Watson contacted the victim by phone and asked for a ride. When the victim drove to a campus dorm, an armed masked man approached him and the victim was blindfolded and put in a second vehicle. The men then forced the suspect to withdraw money from an ATM machine at University Park. Following the report of the incident, the police investigation led them to video surveillance footage from the ATM and then to Watson’s apartment where they found items belonging to the victim.
