A murder in Granite City a little over two years ago has sent a Collinsville teen to prison for the next 35 years.  Javeon D. Hawkins (pictured) will have to serve 100 percent of his sentence after pleading guilty Friday to first-degree murder in the killing of 19-year-old Stephen Nemsky of Granite City in December of 2009. Hawkins alleged accomplice, 23-year-old Vincent R. Blue, awaits trial on charges of first-degree murder and armed robbery.

According to detectives with the Madison County Sheriff's Department, the two were supposed to meet with Nemsky, who thought they were going to sell him marijuana, buit the pair instead planned to rob him. That netted them less than $100. Nemsky tried to drive away after being shot in the neck. He died after crashing his truck in the 4,100 block of Division Street near Granite City. Blue has been jailed since his arrest, held without bond.
