The man who drove his truck into a house killing a Godfrey resident in January of 2013 has pled guilty to his crime. 25-year-old Jacob L. Fickle of the 200 block of Mercury Drive drove an SUV through the front of a home in the 100 block of Saturn Drive, killing 73-year-old Marlin F. Bushnell, who died at the scene. Fickle pled to a single count of Aggravated DUI Resulting in Death.
Investigators say the night of the crash, Fickle got into a fight with a family member at a house a block away, grabbed their keys and sped off before missing the turn that sent him into Bushnell's house. Fickle tested positive for a number of substances while in custody following the crash, and was charged with four counts of Aggravated DUI Resulting in Death – one for each substance found in his system. Fickle was out on bond after being arrested in connection with a series of air conditioner thefts the previous summer. He will be sentenced at a later date, and could face a term of 3-14 years, of which he would be required to serve 85%.
