After nearly seven years, the second of the two killers of a West Alton men has pleaded guilty to his part in the crime. 34-year-old Armondo J. Valdespino of St. Louis was sentenced to 26 years in prison on Friday after he copped to first-degree murder in the the June 12, 2006 murder of Christopher Olson near Holiday Shores.
While he will have to serve 100% of his sentence, he will get credit for time served. Valdespino has been jailed since his arrest in October of 2006. Valdespino's co-defendant, 37-year-old Joseph C. Gasperoni, was convicted in a jury trial in 2008 and was sentenced to 38 years in prison. Investigators believe Valdespino and Gasperoni killed Olson over a drug debt, beating him and shooting him twice in the head before dumping his body.
