A Vietnam veterans’ group is seeking pictures of those named on the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington. They’ll be put on display in an education center to be built across the street, says Paul Baffico, an Army veteran from Vietnam who lives in Lake Forest. “They’ll be on a rotating display, a digital display, so that you’ll be able to advance to the name that you want to see, and it’ll come up on display,” he said.

There are 58,286 names on the wall of soldiers killed in Vietnam, 2,938 are from Illinois, and photos of 1,610 of those are still needed. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund is behind this. Baffico says they’re not searching for pictures – too labor-intensive of an undertaking at the moment – but rather getting the word out in hopes that family or friends of those killed in the war, or even classmates with high school yearbooks, will come forth with photos.
