Another tax hike proposal is on the table in Springfield. Doug Whitley, with the Transportation for Illinois Coalition, says adding four cents to the price of gas and seven cents to the price of diesel could generate more than a-billion-dollars to help pay for roads and bridges.
The transportation coalition also wants drivers to pay higher taxes on things like oil changes and auto repairs. Those are things that Governor Quinn says he won’t support.

The Illinois Petroleum Association is opposed to the idea. They say Illinois already has the sixth highest gas prices in the nation. No actual bill has been filed in the legislature yet but the transportation coalition is looking for lawmakers to back the plan.
