Illinois lawmakers are being urged to “Be A Star” for nursing home residents. The Health Care Council of Illinois is traveling the state with nursing home residents and staff to get lawmakers to restore dental, vision and podiatry care to Medicaid coverage.

“We started the tour in the southern part of the state and we’re working our way towards Chicago,” Comstock said.

Nursing home residents are signing a banner that will be delivered to the governor. Comstock says this will show there are many who are affected by the cuts to Medicaid.

“Preventative dental care is very important in helping to maintain nutrition for the residents. For example, if you can’t chew your food then you can’t eat and you can’t get the nutrition that you need,” Comstock said.
