Yesterday marked the beginning of a new wave of transportation, including a higher speed rail, to not only the River Bend but to the county and the state. Ground was broken yesterday morning on the Multi Modal Transportation Center on Golf Road in Alton. The city has been getting the paperwork in order for the project for a number of years.
Among the speakers were the Alton Mayor, Madison County Board Chairman, Democratic Senator Bill Haine of Alton, and several other elected officials. The River Bend Growth Association was well represented also with Executive Director Monica Bristow as the curator for the ground breaking. Senator Haine tells The Big Z why Alton is the perfect place for such a station.
