A grand opening is planned for Sunday morning at the Grassroots Grocery on Ridge Street in Alton. The store had a soft opening August 22nd, but plans to have a ribbon cutting and celebration to tell the region they are there and open for business.
The store was recently approved to accept SNAP benefits, and that should help increase business, according to co-founder Christine Favilla. She tells The Big Z their 800 square foot store has the feel of a New York neighborhood grocery.

The store is located inside the former Central Electric building on Ridge Street. Grassroots Grocery is open to the public, but members who pay $100 per year to support the store receive a 10-percent discount when shopping.
