After a lot of local buzz in the Riverbend community, it is finally time for Grassroots Grocery to officially open its doors, thanks to a donation from the Simmons Employee Foundation. The Free Fruit for Youth and Police Program received its first $1500 towards the $5000 goal. Grassroots Grocery is a non-profit grocery story in Alton set to open Saturday. Executive Director of Alton Main Street Sara McGibany tells The Big Z about the grant that was recently received.

There will be a ribbon cutting on Saturday morning when the store opens its doors. All produce sold in the store is coming from local vendors. Grassroots Grocery is open to the public, however they do offer a 10% discount to members who pay $100 in annual dues.
