Ahead of World AIDS Day, the Illinois Department of Public Health has awarded grants to organizations providing service for the HIV/AIDS community.  The 16 “Quality of Life Fund” grants totaling $2.1 million were awarded to groups providing HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and support services. The grants are made possible by proceeds from the Lottery’s Red Ribbon Cash instant games.

The announcement was made in Chicago, where IDPH provided free and confidential HIV and Hepatitis C testing.  Illinois has the seventh highest number of diagnosed HIV infections and is fifth nationwide in the estimated number of AIDS cases.
