Greater Alton Community Development is partnering with Rebuilding Together Southwest Illinois to provide free weatherization and home safety work, made possible by a $15,000 grant divided between 15 homeowners. The build day will take place on Saturday, October 17th in the Hunterstown neighborhood. Board Member of Greater Alton Community Development Bruce Bertolino tells The Big Z how this event came to be.

He says they also help accommodate a line of communication between Ameren and homeowners for weatherization if they meet the income guidelines. The grant was awarded by RISE which was formerly the Regional Housing and Community Development Alliance. They are anticipating over 100 volunteers for these projects. Projects will start in the morning and run through the afternoon, and will be followed by a picnic-style gathering in the OSF St. Clare's parking lot at the corner of Central Avenue and Hunters Court.
