A 20-year old Granite City woman has been convicted of first degree murder in what the Madison County State's Attorney says stemmed from an altercation between people with links to rival gangs.   Breanna D. Maldonado of the 2700 block of Nameoki Road in Granite City was found guilty by a Madison County jury after just over three hours of deliberations on Friday.

Authorities responded to the scene at a QuikTrip parking lot in the 2100 block of Madison Avenue just after 1:30 a.m. on October 6, 2013 and found that two people had been stabbed. Both victims were transported to Gateway Medical Center. The male victim, identified by the Madison County State's Attorney as Hugo Valenzuela, was flown to a St.Louis hospital and was later released. The female victim, identified as 20-year old Kaitlin N Juenger of Collinsville, was pronounced dead as a result of her injuries.  Maldonado will have to serve 100% of her sentence, which could range from 20-60 years.   Sentincing should take place in 6-8 weeks.
