A Granite City man serving in Afghanistan has died. According to the U.S. Department of Defense, 36-year-old Staff Sgt. Christopher A. Wilbur died on Friday from non-combat injuries. Wilbur was part of the 1st battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division. He had served in the Army for 11 years. This was his fourth deployment to Iraq or Afghanistan.
Wilbur had been stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado, since September of last year. He leaves behind a wife and two small children. The incident is still under investigation by the D.O.D.
