It's still almost two weeks until the Christmas Wonderland opens, but members of the Grandpa Gang have already had to deal with vandals. Right after Halloween was over, damage was done to some of the many displays that bring joy to young and old alike.
Alton Park & Recreation's Rhonda Lewis says this year, there will be an added tool in the form of extra security cameras to help fight the vandals, but it didn't help in this case.
Each fall, lights are either stolen or broken, and even displays have been damaged in the past. Grandpa Gang leader Bob Osburn says there has been some discussion within the Grandpa Gang of moving the display to another park due to the recurring vandalism and theft, but Osburn says Christmas Wonderland and Rock Spring Park just go together, at least for him. Christmas Wonderland is scheduled to open on Friday, November 25.
