Before the Great River Road, the most efficient way of getting between Alton and Grafton was to ride the Dinky.  The Dinky was a "railbus" that provided transportation along a railroad track at the foot of the bluffs between 1933 and 1953.  A replica of the Dinky will soon be placed in Grafton to commemorate the history of that mode of transportation.

Grafton Mayor Tom Thompson says they expect to have the bus on display in about a month.

Thompson comments

There were actually three Dinky's all together.  All were able to seat 29 to 30 people.  Another piece of Grafton's history - the old motel on Route 3 - will be demolished soon.  The legal work to make that happen is underway.  Thompson says it has been closed for a long time, and is now a hazard to public health and safety.
