The fireworks display in Grafton will go on as planned, in spite of the extreme drought conditions. Grafton, like Alton, has the benefit of being located on a river, so fire suppression is not expected to be an issue. Two years ago, the fireworks were cancelled, as the staging area was on the baseball field and the river was out of its banks.
Chris Sullivan, with the Grafton Police Department, says the launch area will again be at the ballpark, and the Illinois River will provide the backdrop.
Sullivan says there will be a festival atmosphere around town, with many businesses offering live music, food and drink. The show begins tomorrow night at dusk, around 9:00.
