The Grafton Ferry will launch its 2014 season in about three weeks. The contract the city has with the Calhoun Ferry Company - which operates the vessel - ensures operation May 1 through October 31. The city purchased the ferry a few years ago, including the Missouri landing, but had to dredge a portion of the rivers in order to reopen the boat.
And that combined with the spring flooding pushed the opening back to late July. Calhoun Ferry secretary Denise Knight says 2013 was a rebuilding year, and hopes for an even better 2014.
