Gov. Pat Quinn proclaimed Thursday “Innovation Day” in Illinois. Quinn made the proclamation while hosting an annual innovation forum at the Executive Mansion. “Innovation is essential to driving the Illinois economy forward,” Quinn said. “Innovation Day brings together the best minds in our state to make sure Illinois remains at the forefront of emerging markets and continues to create 21st century jobs.”

In 2011, Quinn created the Illinois Innovation Council to identify and advance strategies that accelerate innovation, economic growth and job creation. Comprised of representatives from the state’s leading research universities, federal labs and some of the most innovative corporations and entrepreneurs, the council connects public and private thought leaders to foster innovation in Illinois.
