Gov. Pat Quinn is planning another trade mission on behalf of Illinois. Quinn will be headed to Mexico in early April for a trade trip. “It’s an opportunity for us to build ties,” Quinn said. Quinn has been busy trying to recruit foreign business to Illinois. Earlier this week he met with the finance minister of Peru. Quinn says exports from Illinois to Peru went up 35 percent last year.

Illinois has several free trade agreements with countries in South America. Quinn says higher education in Illinois is also a selling point. Quinn says 100,000 Brazilians are heading to college outside of Brazil. He says more Brazilian students are attending college in Illinois than any other state of the union. “We want to use these opportunities of connection so that we do work together with all the economies of the world, but especially the economies in our hemisphere,”Quinn said.
