Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner has released his initial plans for dealing with a new state budget. His office revealed a list of cuts yesterday the governor claims would be needed to balance what he calls a "phony" budget that is nearly four-billion-dollars in the hole.
Beginning immediately — DCEO will suspend all future incentive programs, the Illiana Expressway will not move forward and the process to close down one or two juvenile correctional facilities has begun. The governor also said beginning July 1 all non-emergency state planes will be grounded, no new Illinois State Police vehicles will be purchased, and other actions for various departments under executive control. The Illinois House returns to Springfield for meetings tomorrow, and the state senate next Tuesday.
