The Republican candidates for governor trailing Bruce Rauner in polls are trying to get their parting shots in ahead of Tuesday’s primary. State Sen. Kirk Dillard (R-Hinsdale) attacked Rauner on not only his former business dealings and his ties to Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, but also said Rauner is promising things that no governor can achieve unilaterally.
“He thinks he can do executive orders,” Dillard said. “He clearly is unprepared and does not understand what the powers of the office of the governor are.”

State Sen. Bill Brady (R-Bloomington) made similar remarks, but Rauner said he’s not concerned with those attacks.
“There’s no validity to it, there’s no underlying truth, and I just ignore it and go on and stick to our message—we’re gonna win this race,” Rauner said.
