Illinois Republicans who not long ago had never heard of Paul Schimpf are now jumping aboard his campaign for attorney general. Schimpf, of Waterloo, had no political experience when he completed a legal career in the Marine Corps, and decided to run for attorney general. “We started this campaign with two volunteers, one campaign website and zero donors. So I was not recruited by the Republican Party, and that’s a good thing, because I’m not gonna owe any political favors,” he said at a news conference in the Capitol.

He has gained the endorsement now of several lawmakers, including State Rep. Jil Tracy (R-Quincy), whom he named his honorary campaign chairman. She says Democratic incumbent Lisa Madigan is no good! “She is the poster child for a career politician who hasn’t got a lot to show for the time she has served,” Tracy said. Schimpf actually said Madigan has done a good job in the area of consumer protection, but he promises to do more to fight political corruption.
