Illinois stands to be a winner when the Ryder Cup comes to Medinah.  The Ryder Cup runs Sept. 25 – 30 and the economic impact on Illinois is an estimated $180 million. But it doesn’t take a big golf event to impact the state’s economy. According to a 2007 study, the size of Illinois’ direct golf economy was approximately $2.1 billion.

In 2007 Illinois’ golf industry generated a total economic impact of $4.8 billion supporting over 50,000 jobs with $1.5 billion of wage income. Illinois’ 683 golf courses, 45 stand-alone ranges and 48 miniature golf facilities generated $1.2 billion in revenue in 2007.
