Alton's desire to develop the Wadlow Golf Course on the Homer Adams Parkway is moving right along with the announcement this week that a TIGER Grant has been awarded to the city and county to build a Multimodal Transportation Facility. The Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery Grant application is part of a bigger picture that will not only include a new train and bus station, but redevelopment of much of the land that golfers have been enjoying for decades.

Alton's Director of Development and Housing, Phil Roggio, says the plan is to turn the land into a mixed-use development.

Roggio comments

He says the goal is to develop the golf course in an environmentally sensitive nature. To that end, another grant application is in the works that would protect the green space by embarking on a creek restoration project that he hopes will be fully underway by the middle of next year.
