Godfrey's Village Board has reduced its 2015-2016 tax levy by 2%, but it was a vote that split the board.  The decision coming out of the Finance Committee was to hold the levy steady, but Trustee Eldon "Twirp" Williams changed his mind at the full board meeting and made a motion for the 2% reduction.

Godfrey Mayor Mike McCormick was called on to break the tie, joining Williams, Sarah Johnes and Karen McAtee in support of the reduction.

The levy last year came in at $485,636.  The levy has been reduced each year for the past six years, as the village continues to see more tax money from its growing business community.  McCormick says the audit report which was presented at this week's meeting shows the village is in great shape financially.
