When the Village of Godfrey decided it would allow video gaming at its existing bars and restaurants, another decision was made to direct revenue generated by the activity to be put towards the village's parks.  In the few years since that decision, the village has saved up about $150,000, and a resolution has now been passed to authorize the use of those funds for capital projects in the parks.

Park & Recreation Committee member Don Long was the first to suggest earmarking the funds for the parks, so he says this move pleases him.

Park & Recreation Director Kimberly Caughran says she will be applying for a grant through Major League Baseball that, if awarded, could be combined with the existing money to light the four baseball diamonds on the south side of Stamper Lane.  She says that is about a half-million dollar project.
